Purity & Quality: What "99%+" Actually Means

Not all peptide vendors test the same way. Here's what separates a real purity claim from a marketing number.

Peptide purity is typically verified through HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) and mass spectrometry, which measure the percentage of the intended peptide sequence relative to degradation products, truncated sequences, and synthesis byproducts.

A vendor claiming "99%+ purity" should be able to provide a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from an independent third-party lab for each batch โ€” not just a factory spec sheet. Look for batch-specific lot numbers, not generic marketing documents reused across every product.

Storage and shipping conditions matter just as much as synthesis quality. Peptides degrade with heat, light, and moisture exposure โ€” a "99% pure" peptide shipped without proper packaging can arrive significantly degraded.

Lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides are stable at room temperature for extended periods, but once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, the clock starts. Most peptides remain stable for 2-4 weeks under refrigeration (2-8ยฐC) โ€” check the specific compound, as stability windows vary.

Always add BAC water slowly, directing the stream against the vial wall rather than directly onto the lyophilized powder, to avoid disrupting the peptide structure with excess turbulence. Gently swirl โ€” never shake โ€” to dissolve.

Label every reconstituted vial with the date of mixing. Peptides that appear cloudy, discolored, or contain visible particulate after reconstitution should not be used โ€” this typically indicates degradation or contamination.
